Psychology of Persuasion

6-part workshop series, starting Friday 11 May

To get people to say 'yes' to your product or service, you first must understand the people you are creating it for. That's the realm of Psychology and by understanding some of the key principles of human behaviour you can create content that is far more likely to attract, convince and convert.

This 6-part discussion series will discuss the role of Psychology in marketing and some useful tips for anyone who regularly prepares the marketing content for their organisation.

Not-for-Profits: Being for good & managing the bad
6-part workshop series, starting Friday 13 July

Managing a not for profit (or for purpose) entity is not what it used to be. The level of competition has increased 10 fold and the amount of money available for supporting your activities has decreased by an even bigger number. Throw on top of this all the added expectations of corporate governance, best practice, competing for great staff and the high burn out rates and you wonder why you do it.

In partnership with Vincents, this series of workshops will look at some of the biggest issues facing organisations in the not-for-profit/for purpose sector today and present options on how to address them. There will also be an opportunity for you to connect with other local community groups and share your knowledge and experiences with one another.

Not only should your website be clear and easy to use, but it should also be considerate of your user. What is the Reservoir of Goodwill and which 8 actions can you take to keep it full?

Workshop 3: A guide for the confused - content and understanding how people see, read, focus and decide

How people see can tell you a lot about how to use colour, symmetry and peripheral vision. Understanding how they read and focus can also help you to design the flow of tasks that aid decision-making.

Workshop 4: Function over 'flash' - how do people think?
Thursday 4 October, 9:30am - 11:30am
How we really use the web - design for thinking errors and knowing when to encourage System 1 versus System 2 thinking.

Workshop 5: Social-ability and mobile-ability - the evolution of online participation
Thursday 8 November, 9:30am - 11:30am
Emotions are contagious - understand the importance of story in design and how people's self-stories affect their behavior. The anatomical reality of designing for smartphones - how far does a thumb really reach?
