The Business Expansion Series: Employment unravelled (not unravelling!)

1-DAY WORKSHOP, WEDNESDAY 31 JULY - 9:30AM TO 4:00PM

The process of employing staff has never been more complex, confusing and open to costly mistakes. The difference between full time, part time, contractors and casuals has become so convoluted that most of us just throw up our hands in despair and hope that the issue just goes away. Many smaller business owners work themselves to the bone, to try and avoid the necessity to employ at all.

The world of employment agreements induces fear in most of us – who do we need them for and how do we differentiate between our employees and our contractors? Do we have the right to terminate, change conditions and if so, what remedies am I required to pay? What happens if someone gets hurt at work? What about special obligations based on age, ability or location?

This workshop helps you to create a checklist of the requirements you need to consider and build into your discussion with potential employees and your employment agreements. The format allows for a discussion with subject matter experts and peers to work through shared experiences.

Topics covered will include:

  • The Employment Agreement structure
  • Conditions of Employment
  • Processes around discrimination, bullying and harassment
  • But also the good stuff – rewards, incentives and other options for retention.
  • Managing employees during the down times and making sure you keep them for the good
  • Your obligations as an employer
  • Their obligations as your employees

Where:
Lighthouse - Unit 6, 65 Tennant Street, Fyshwick ACT

Cost:
$150.00 (+GST) for all-day workshop
