Anna Pino - Director and Chief Executive Officer
Anna was born into small business and has spent the past 25 years involved with business development at various levels. Anna's family have always been in private business so she has lived and breathed the experiences, challenges, stress and rewards that face these businesses. But as the 'black sheep', Anna also spent 10 years working in government on the policy and program delivery side of assessing and supporting business in Australia.
Anna started her career working as a Psychologist and has found a strong link between these skills and helping people understand and negotiate their way through business development and growth.
Anna's expertise ranges the full gamut of business issues from financial planning control and analysis, market definition and import/export strategies, human resource management, stock control and purchasing structures, governance and risk management. Anna believes that in order to work with others in business you need to understand the issues first hand and be prepared to 'get your hands dirty'. There is no one solution fits all.
Anna's experience has seen her undertake varying roles including:
- Establishing and assisting in the running a number of small business in their start up stages;
- Establishing R&D assessments for both public and private clients;
- Providing hands on business advice and advice to SME's and corporate clients;
- Spinning out ideas and organizations from Research Institutions;
- Successfully preparing companies for external investment;
- Developing intellectual property based products for business;
- Preparing funding applications (including for Lighthouse);
- Negotiating and undertaking due diligence in relation to securing third party investment;
- Established a 'community based' co working space;
- Established and managed a number of pilot programs that partnered product based start up with corporate operators;
- Successfully restructuring and managing a medium sized speciality allied health business; and
- Chair a number of 'for purpose organisations' through change processes and mergers.
Anna has completed a number of additional studies including a Graduate Diploma in Computing (specialising in systems analysis and information systems) and a Master of Commerce in which her dissertation focused on the issues associated with capital raising for small business in Australia. Anna is also a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and a Harvard Alumni.
Candice Edye - Director and Commercialisation Manager
With more than twenty years professional experience in marketing, public relations and small business management, Candice has helped market start-up businesses, online businesses, not-for-profits, membership organisations, government programs and everything in between. She has provided communications advice across a wide range of industry sectors including IT, education, environment, transport, public sector, science, healthcare and construction, both for large corporate clients as well as start-up businesses.
Candice has a strong interest in entrepreneurship and business innovation, growing up in a family business and starting her first business straight out of university. Her experience with marketing entrepreneurs has seen her involved in designing and executing campaigns to launch start-ups, position CEOs as thought-leaders, increase market share for established businesses and raise the profile of the Australian family business sector.
Candice has extensive marketing experience in brand development, internal communication, strategy development, issues and crisis management, event creation and management, sponsorship, media management, digital communication and government relations.
Her large campaign experience includes managing projects on behalf of clients such as Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Family Business Australia, Department of Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy, Geoscience Australia, Department of Finance, ACT Chief Minister's Department, Australian Quarantine Inspection Service, Biosecurity Australia, Auscript, Office For Women, Computer Sciences Corporation, Crime Stoppers, Outward Bound and the Department of Family and Community Services.
With an Honours degree in Psychology, qualifications in Business Administration, Management, and Training and Assessment, Candice has also conducted accredited training and numerous workshops in marketing and communications.
Rachel Christou - Events and Program Coordinator
Rachel is a graduate from the University of Wollongong, completing her Bachelor of Commerce (Event Management) which included a Diploma of Events from the TAFE Illawarra Institute. With a strong passion for events, she has volunteered and undertaken a number of internships with event management companies and venues throughout New South Wales and the ACT.
Rachel has taken on a number of event coordination roles including event administration and development, volunteer induction and management, event technical assistance, stage management, artist and talent management, theming and design, event marketing and advertising, social media management and event sponsorship.
Lyn Robbins - Finance Manager
Lyn has spent several years working as a finance/administration manager in small business and has gained accounting and taxation experience through her work as an assistant accountant in a small chartered accounting practice. Lyn is a member of the Institute of Public Accountants and a registered BAS agent.
